Just a quick note to say thank you for organizing the above yesterday.  It was a truly awesome day and I know that those of us that travelled in enjoyed the day from start to finish.

 

Leon Symes and Jody Rarere met us off the bus and a korero of welcome was extended by Lewis Ratapu, Leon, Jody and Aayden Clarke (Commercial side).  Following a lovely morning tea and toilet stop we were off to our first stop, the Pataka at the old New World site.   Kited out in our Visitor Hi Viz Jackets we were introduced to the staff and taken through the complex to view all the donations of food stuff/cleaning products/babies needs/furniture/boxes of new White ware that had been donated/ new mattresses/ clean used sheets/pillows/ duvet covers etc/ wheelbarrows/shovels/rakes etc all displayed in their relative categories ready for distribution at a moment's notice.  Lovely, pleasant staff here with a passion to help.  

 

Next stop the Te Raua Housing Complex.  After all signing in, Aayden took us through the area to meet the Project person and whilst in the early stages of development there was time for listening to what was taking place as well as answering any questions.  Next door to the complex was one of the Pods which we were allowed to go through and we met the Koroua the Pod is for.  We were all impressed with the layout and how compact the Pod is with everything in it that one would need.

 

All too soon it was back to the office where we were treated to a yummy lunch.  Following our lunch we met the Architects who introduced themselves and gave us a presentation of the building complex with the focus on what we thought of the assisted living part for the Pakeke portion of the complex.  There was much input from everyone and I am sure that the Architects will have gone away very happy with the notes they took.

 

Last stop was a visit to Whakapau Farm where we were introduced to the Work Supervisor who spoke to us about the Horticulture development, the rangatahi employed including working mums who work between the hours of 9am -2pm.  Their top digger driver is a woman too much aye. This guy was another one so passionate about his work and particularly working with rangatahi that need a hand up due to various backgrounds that they come from.

 

In all, a great productive and enlightening day and I am so appreciative of Tatau Tatau making it possible for this to happen.  Seeing the projects in reality have given a visual to what Leon presented at the recent AGM.

 

I have to give a big shout out to Jody who accompanied us throughout the day and gave a running commentary where needed and it was awesome to hear and feel her enthusiasm for the enormous role that she plays in the Housing Development for our people.
