Resilience containers are located at marae on the Mahia Peninsula - Ruawharo Marae, Mahanga Marae and Kaiuku Marae.
They are a resource to assist and support whānau, marae and community to cater for themselves in times of weather events, earthquakes or tsunami, to be resilient and self-managing and can only be opened in a declared Civil Defence Emergency. It is designed to help and support whānau for at least 48 hours OR until emergency services and resources can reach them.
He mihi nui ki Te Whare Maire o Tapuwae - Whanau Ora, Wairoa (TWMOT). With funding from Te Puni Kokiri, they were able to provide the resilience containers. The containers and contents were procured and supplied by Kooga Ltd, Napier.
Te Whare Maire o Tapuwae will be working with Lenny Ferris (Civil Defense) to have all containers in the Wairoa Township sign posted and added to the Civil Defense website as evacuation points in Civil Defence Emergencies.
